  1. In a mixing bowl, with the paddle attachment, beat the butter until soft. Then beat in the shortening.
  2. On low speed, add the extract and flavorings.
  3. Add the sifted sugar and beat on lowest speed. Scrap down the sides of the bowl as needed.
  4. Stir the salt into the whole milk until it dissolves. Add the mixture to the icing until smooth and creamy.
  5. Beat in the corn syrup if using in the recipe.
  6. The consistency can be adjusted by adding more milk or sugar.
  7. Store the buttercream up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator. Whip with a mixer before using.
