Quesitos

(Puerto Rican Cheese Turnovers)

With either a hand blender or mixer machine, cream the cream cheese with the granulated sugar, vanilla, and mix well until soft and creamy.

Cut the puff pastry sheet into 3″ squares. You will get approximately 15 squares.

 

Place 1 tablespoon of cream cheese/sugar mix in the middle of each puff pastry square. Take two opposite corners or the square and place a small amount of egg wash on the tips and fold the ends toward the center onto of the cream cheese

 

Spread some egg wash on the tops of the puff pastry squares and sprinkle some granulated sugar

Bake the puff pastry in the oven for approximately 18-20 minutes or until light and golden in color.

 

As soon as they are done, cover the tops with corn syrup and again sprinkle granulated sugar on top.

Ingredients

  • 1 Sheet Pillsbury Puff Pastry
  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • 1 cup granulatesd sugar
  • 3 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 cup corn syrup - you can also use glucose
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla
  • 1 egg (to make egg wash)

Instructions

  • Pre-heat your oven to 375 degrees
  • In a bowl, mix the egg to make an "egg wash"
  • With either a hand blender or mixer machine, cream the cream cheese with 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar, vanilla, and mix well until soft and creamy.
  • Cut the puff pastry sheet into 3" squares. You will get approximately 15 squares
  • Place 1 tablespoon of cream cheese/sugar mix in the middle of each puff pastry square
  • Take two opposite corners or the square and place a small amount of egg wash on the tips and fold the ends toward the center onto of the cream cheese
  • Place each pastry square onto a cookie sheet that has been lined with baking paper
  • Spread some egg wash on the tops of the puff pastry squares and sprinkle some granulated sugar
  • Bake the puff pastry in the oven for approximately 18-20 minutes or until light and golden in color
  • As soon as they are done, cover the tops with corn syrup and again sprinkle granulated sugar on top

Notes

You can substitute the cream cheese for other ingredients such as fruit preserves, or even Nutella.
